How do you change the email culture?

“Will staff fall back into bad habits after email training? Will they go back to sending unnecessary copies, checking emails endlessly, and writing poor emails?”

Just a few of the questions that we are often asked. The short answer is no. Why are we so confident?

Firstly everything delegates learn when they attend an Emailogic course is common sense – just not common practice.

Once someone can see the benefit of writing clear and meaningful subject lines – and the impact this has on the recipients – they are unlikely to change back again.

Once a delegate appreciates that messages containing spelling mistakes or grammatical errors will have a negative impact on the recipient, s/he will always check their spelling.

To ensure email culture is tackled head on – and that all staff are empowered to be part of the change –a full email training programme should be mandated. This means that everyone will be trained and the culture will change.

A full programme will involve pre work, widespread training for all email users – followed up with refresher tools and additional resources to ensure the culture stays changed.

Extra programme resources mean that those who attended training receive video tips, quizzes, and other reminders and refreshers on a regular basis following the training. They can re-sit and review the learning. Email best practice tips are regularly disseminated throughout the company to keep email in front of the mind. The fundamentals are kept alive and every user focuses on what they have to do to be a responsible email user within the organisational environment.

Email best practice training content for induction is provided in the appropriate format to ensure that all new starters learn and understand how email is used in the organisation and which behaviours are unacceptable.
