How emotionally intelligent are your managers?

Managing effectively is not easy at the best of times. Now most companies are working virtually, and managing by seeing is often impossible, it is imperative that your managers develop their skill sets to cope. In this new hybrid working world, emotional intelligence (EQ) is becoming more important than ever for managers who are trying to get the delicate balance right between performance and employee well-being.

Research quoted by Daniel Goleman, the father of modern EQ theory, shows that across all job levels EQ proves twice as important as IQ, while in senior roles 90% of the difference in profiles between average and star performers is attributed to EQ factors.

According to Goleman there are five key elements to EQ: Self-awareness, Self-regulation, Motivation, Empathy, and Social skills.

Do your managers show these skills?

They don’t come naturally to everyone, but training can prove beneficial. The great thing with EQ (as opposed to IQ) is that with practice and training EQ can grow significantly.

How many of us self-review and look to improve our self-understanding and interpersonal skills?

It’s not a high priority for most. This is why we have developed a bite-size masterclass to support managers in developing their emotional intelligence.  The impact of greater EQ in your managers will have an immediate knock-on impact on the bottom-line, through sharper management focus, increased motivation, greater staff retention, and a reduction in staff issues.
